Ask most people to name the UAE's energy hubs and they will say Fujairah, Ruwais and Jebel Ali. Fewer will mention Hamriyah — yet this UAE free zone on the Gulf's west coast has quietly become one of the most useful places for a physical product trader to be based. Here is why Sunara Energy chose it.
1. Storage with real depth
Hamriyah Free Zone hosts an extensive cluster of independent tank farms handling gasoil, fuel oil, base oils, bitumen and chemicals. For a trader that is the difference between quoting from a spreadsheet and quoting from a tank. Holding inventory lets us sell in parcel sizes our African and South Asian customers actually want — 3,000 to 10,000 MT — rather than forcing them onto full cargoes.
2. Blending capability
Much of Hamriyah's business is blending: bringing fuel oil, gasoil and cutter stock together to hit a customer's spec. The same infrastructure lets us produce specific sulphur or viscosity grades, and package base oils and bitumen in drums or flexitanks for markets without bulk receiving terminals.
3. Two coasts, one country
Hamriyah sits inside the Gulf; Fujairah sits outside the Strait of Hormuz on the Indian Ocean. A UAE-based trader can work both — loading small parcels in Hamriyah for the northern Gulf and Pakistan, and using Fujairah for larger East African and Indian Ocean liftings. Trucking between the two coasts takes hours, not days.
4. A regulatory environment built for trade
The Hamriyah Free Zone Authority licenses trading in petroleum and petrochemical products directly, and the free-zone structure — 100% foreign ownership, no customs duty on re-exports — is designed for exactly the entrepot business a product trader runs.
For a trader, being next to the tanks is worth more than being next to the towers.
What it means for our customers
Because our office, our storage and our loading berths are minutes apart, we can respond to a spot enquiry with a firm offer, an inspection slot and a laycan in the same conversation. That speed — combined with accurate documentation — is what we mean by Powering Trade, Energising Growth.
